When he was first elected to the Chair of St. Peter, Pope Francis's connection with Eastern Catholics was referenced in several different circles (here for example).
If we take his alleged understanding and sensitivity to the Eastern lung as a given, we must concede that we are utterly confused by his recent decision to keep Cardinal Sandri in charge of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches.
For those who don't recall, His Eminence was responsible for one of the most ridiculously bad and scandalous Curial comments of at least the last several years.
Why is he being allowed to stick around after rendering such an insult to our Eastern Catholic brethren?
This is another example of why I'm not optimistic about the supposed efforts at Curial reform.
